Pruning and grafting supplies
Pruning trees in summer is controversial among gardeners.
Some people believe that summer is the best time for this action. Others are convinced of the opposite.
Most often summer pruning is in addition to winter pruning. This scheme gives a tangible effect and significantly increases the yield.
We are not so competent in this matter, so just a reminder: when pruning fruit trees, do not forget to treat the cuts with tree-pruning paste Universal Bugorkov.
Why do you have to use a tree-pruning paste?
Young, thin branches can heal on their own after the summer pruning - they produce enough sap to allow the cut to recover safely. Thicker, older branches need help - without a varnish treatment, fungi and bacteria can settle on the cut area, and the tree will become diseased or dry out. Tree-pruning paste protects the cut by shutting out insects and disease-causing bacteria. Tree-pruning paste speeds up callus formation at the cut site, and the tree continues to grow without complications.
Why should you use the Universal Bugorkov tree-pruning paste?
- applies in a thin, economical layer;
- does not drip in the sun or crack from frost;
- forms a strong protective film;
- used all year round, no need to heat up in winter;
- not expensive compared to imported analogues.
In addition to pruning, grafting of fruit trees is also done in summer. It is believed that mid-summer is the best time for this. This is because the shoots, which are only one year old, are no longer growing so intensively, the distance between the buds is minimal, the apex finishes forming. The wood becomes hard, and the bark separates easily.
Depending on the region, weather, and timing of fruiting, summer grafting is carried out from mid-June to the end of August.
Few gardeners dare to graft in their gardens, considering it too difficult an undertaking. But for those brave enough to take the risk, we offer grafting tape SVETLITSAтм GRAFT. It is photodegradable. This means that the tape is destroyed by UV light after the required period.
What is photodegradable grafting tape for?
As the cuttings grow, the ribbon gradually stretches, keeping the scion and rootstock tightly connected, and then breaks down when exposed to sunlight.
Thus, the plant will not be overstretched, and after the cuttings take root, you do not need to remove the tape. The breakdown period is 1 - 4 months. After this period, the film crumbles into small fragments, and then it is destroyed by soil microorganisms. On top of all the pluses, there is no soil contamination.
The tape is produced in thicknesses of 80 and 100 µm and widths of 13 and 20 mm.
Usually, 100 µm tape is used for grafting by cuttings, and 80 µm tape for grafting. The choice of width depends on personal preference.
Types of grafting
