How deep should you make the pond?
If you plan to leave nymphs (water lilies) in the pond for the winter, make sure they are at least 80 cm deep. Or put them in containers in a frost-free cellar for the winter and put them back in the pond in spring.
If you want to keep the fish for the winter, the depth of the reservoir should be at least 1 m.
The need to use geotextile, the thickness of the "cushion" of sand (or other fine materials), the depth of the anchoring trench (lock) depends on the depth of the reservoir and its purpose.
Geotextile is not necessary to lay under the film if the depth of the reservoir does not exceed 80 cm. Nevertheless, for better preservation of the film, we recommend removing all stones and roots from the pit, thoroughly tamping the bottom, and pouring a layer of sand about 5 cm.
The scheme shows the temperature of the water in the reservoir during winter.
